A Documentary
The central objective of "For Love of Julian" is to ensure that the next time a stranger meets a child with multiple handicaps, they will not look away but rather into the eyes of a human being, staring across a divide no longer. Ultimately, FOR LOVE OF JULIAN is about appreciating what one has and making of life what one can. Production on FOR LOVE OF JULIAN began in 1992 when Julian was three years old. Over the next seven years, five other families with multiply handicapped children became a part of the film. In addition to the families, two schools are featured for their exemplary work in the field of education for the disabled. Marcene Johnson of The Brookside School defines the importance of early intervention while Patrick Dollard and other faculty at The Center For Discovery illustrate the need for innovative and radical reforms in the way society deals with the disabled.
